Clean Steel
The world should have steel made with zero-CO2 emissions.
Steel Today: Global Necessity, Global Problem
Steel is a necessity in today’s world. The global demand for steel has steadily increased, growing 122% from 2000 to 2023, and is expected to continue. The steel industry is responsible for approximately 8% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This is a problem for the Earth’s atmosphere; this is a problem for everyone. Coal-driven blast furnaces are the main cause of these sky-high emissions.
Something must change.
Our Roles
One of the objectives that we’re working towards at Two Planet Steel is to be able to offer a selection of clean, zero-emission steel products. Two Planet Steel’s zero-emissions iron and steel powders can be used to make a variety of well-designed, clean steel products.
Our work extends beyond our own product development to pushing for clean steel technologies on a broader scale. We aim to further the development and use of clean steel through:
- Advocacy: Supporting legislation that promotes zero-emission steel production.
- Research: Determining how to accurately assess the value of clean steel. Currently, low estimates of the value of zero-emission steel give a false picture of the costs of operating a clean steel plant. More fully understanding the factors that increase the value of clean steel will encourage more companies to undertake clean steel production.
